    Instruct children not to enter any strangers homes while out trick or treating.

    Tell your kids not to sample their treats until they get home and you can check them.

    Instruct older children to plan out a route that you know, and set a curfew.

    Throw away all unwrapped or tampered with treats. Look for resealed wrappers, etc.

    Tell children not to take shortcuts through dark alley or fields but to keep to the main well-lit streets.

    Avoid costumes with masks; limited eye sight will make it harder for your child to see oncoming cars, etc.

    Escort your children from house to house if they are too young. If you feel your child is old enough and mature enough then they may be ready to trick or treat with a group of responsible friends.
