Teen in court facing church vandalism charges

A teen appeared in court yesterday on charges he allegedly vandalized a church in North Charleston.

   Ashton Taylor Clayton is charged with 2 counts of malicious injury to a place of worship.

 Police say the Peace Lutheran Church off of Dorchester Road was vandalized several times over the past month.

 The church has been egged, toilet papered and a church statue was broken several times.

 Pastor Jack Deal saying he also received a letter attached to a dead squirrel left in the church mailbox…

 “He has indicated through his actions and also in the letter in left that he is anti Christ and pro satan.”

Police say during their investigation, they found strong evidence that Clayton had researched satanic and anti-religious organizations.

 Clayton faces up to 10 years in prison if found guilty.
