Fatal stabbing at James Island home involving 10-year-old and grandmother

JAMES ISLAND, SC - Wednesday morning around 11 a.m. police were called to the 300 block of Howle Avenue on James Island to investigate reports of a stabbing.

When officers arrived they were told that a 10-year-old and his grandmother were involved in a physical altercation, and at some point a knife was introduced.

According to police the boy ran to a nearby house to seek help.

Authorities found the grandmother on the floor of her home unresponsive.  The boy and his grandmother were the only two in the home at the time of this incident. She was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.

The juvenile was transported to an area hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries that he sustained in this incident. The circumstances surrounding this incident are being investigated by our Criminal Investigations Division.
