From our News Partners at WCBD-TV:

Ethen Richardson, an 8-year-old from Mount Pleasant, has not been able to wake up in more than a week but is breathing on his own, according to his family's Facebook page updates.

Ethen's story has been shared here in the Lowcountry and across the U.S.

He was diagnosed with an inoperable tumor in his brain stem in the summer of 2012.

This message was posted on his family's page on Tuesday:

Baby Boy,

It's been over a week since we heard your sweet little voice or felt your warm hugs. We know you are ok and that you have been in the company of angels.

We prayed and prayed. We asked God to let you come back to us. We hope you do soon. We miss you Effers. Momma, Daddy, Eli, Sissy, and Man Man love you dearly.

While Ethen has been taken off a breathing machine and is able to breathe on his own, he is unresponsive.

More than 2 thousand people have liked his family's recent post and the comments are filled with encouraging messages and prayers.

Ethen has touched the hearts of many in his community. Bella Feinzig has raised more than $3,000 to help with medical expenses.

For more than a year he has been treated at St. Jude Children's Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.
